Mass Media/ Mass communication Media I find connect to the movie 2012:

Television: Television (TV) is a widely used telecommunication medium for transmitting and receiving moving images, either monochromatic (“black and white”) or color, usually accompanied by sound. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ .

In 1884 Paul Gottlieb Nipkow, a 20-year old university student in Germany, patented the first electromechanical television system which employed a scanning disk, a spinning disk with a series of holes spiraling toward the center, for rasterization.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Television#History

Radio: Radio is the transmission of signals by modulation of electromagnetic waves with frequencies below those of visible light.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radio

Experiments, later patented, were undertaken by Thomas Edison and his employees of Menlo Park.[3] Edison applied in 1885 to the U.S. Patent Office for his patent on an electrostatic coupling system between elevated terminals. The patent was granted as U.S. Patent 465,971 on December 29, 1891. The Marconi Company would later purchase rights to the Edison patent to protect them legally from lawsuits.[4] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radio#Invention

Radio, also the cheapest means of disseminating information, is generally considered the medium of the masses.(2006). In Pop Culture India! Media, Arts, and Lifestyle. Retrieved from http://168.156.198.98:2226/entry/abcindpope/radio

An undisputed fact is that Alexander Graham Bell was the first to be awarded a patent for the electric telephone by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) in March 1876.[1] That first patent by Bell was the master patent of the telephone, from which all other patents for electric telephone devices and features flowed. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telephone#History

Newspaper: A daily or weekly publication composed of folded sheets, containing news, advertisements, topical articles, correspondence, etc. (2001). In Chambers 21st Century Dictionary. Retrieved from http://168.156.198.98:2226/entry/chambdict/newspaper

In China, early government-produced news sheets, called tipao, circulated among court officials during the late Han dynasty (second and third centuries AD). Between 713 and 734, the Kaiyuan Za Bao (“Bulletin of the Court”) of the Chinese Tang Dynasty published government news; it was handwritten on silk and read by government officials. In 1582 there was the first reference to privately published news-sheet in Beijing, during the late Ming Dynasty;[1]

Papyrus was used for writing in Ancient Egypt, perhaps as early as the First Dynasty, although the first evidence is from the account books of King Neferirkare Kakai of the Fifth Dynasty (about 2400 BC).[3] Papyrus sheets were glued together to form a scroll. Tree bark such as lime (Latin liber, from there also library) and other materials were also used.[4] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Book#History_of_books

Like the author Bob Bermen pointed out in his article, I don`t believe that the world is going to end in Dec 07 2012. I believe that it is going to end some day but not in 2012 like the message given out in this movie. Mayans were smart people but they did not have technological advantages such as satellites, telescopes, radars. I believe in science, so when the science gives  us more signs  that the world is going to end then I believe it. The problem is; even todays  technological advancements scientists can not pinpoint the exact date about the end of the world. Although there  was a very good computer effects in the movie, I thought it was overdone.

I am sure there is some people out there who believes Mayans are right on the date but, I think the majority of receivers see it as I do. I see the movie just another Hollywood production to make money out of this subject.
